Children can attend either morning or afternoons or a mixture of both, a minimum of two per week. Funded children can attend up to 5 free sessions a week (or up to 15 hours including lunch club), on any days in any combination. The sessions start promptly at 9.00 and 12.30 please try not to be late as this is our registration time.
During the session a drink of milk or water and a snack is offered in the ‘café’. A list of the weekly snack is on the notice board. If you do not want your child to have this, (e.g. special dietary needs) please let the staff know. We do not offer juice as an alternative. Fresh water is always available in the child’s own water bottle we supply.
The weekly routine is often around a theme e.g. animals, transport, colours or the interests of a group of children. This will involve supervised activities, story time and group discussion. Please do not always expect your child to produce something at the end of the session, children will be encouraged but it is entirely up to them if they wish to take part in craft or cooking activities. We do not encourage children to bring in toys to play with from home as they can often get lost or even broken.
The lunchtime club is an extra provision that is available Monday to Friday from 12noon till 12.30pm for both the children attending mornings or afternoons. There is a charge of £2.50 per day to be paid on the day of their session and club if funding not used. Children bring their own packed lunch. No booking necessary. The lunchtime club is an ideal way of introducing children to having their lunch socially and away from home. Children who will be attending a school full-time may benefit from this club as it extends their day. Two members of staff supervise the lunchtime club and will supervise the children once they have finished eating. This is also useful if parents would like a little more than the usual two and a half or three hours in the morning or afternoon.
Funding / Free Places
As well as providing funding for all 3 (the term after the child’s third birthday) and 4 year olds for up to 15 hours a week, the government now offers up to 30 hours free childcare if you meet certain criteria. Please ask for more details, although you will be informed if you are eligible and registered with us. Funded places can be shared with one other setting or local school. There is limited local funding for 2 year olds within a specific criteria; we can give you a contact number for more details on this, or visit Childcare Choices for eligibility.
